on the designers contest “A Letter Image: a letter as the basis of formation in architecture and design”
Committee for culture, tourism and archiving of the Novgorod region, Polytechnic institute of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University and Contemporary museum of calligraphy moderated by International Exhibition Company MVK in the network of the program of the III International exhibition of calligraphy (September 10–12, 2010, Yaroslav's Court, Velikiy Novgorod) carry out the contest of the designers’ works devoted to: “A Letter Image: a letter as the basis of formation in architecture and design”.
Contest purpose: to show cultural and educational value of the calligraphy art in formation Task of a contest participant: to create volumetric composition reflecting poetics, plasticity and action of calligraphy Technical requirements to the works: sizes — 40×40×50 ñm (base not more than 40×40 ñm, height not more than 50–60 ñm) Material and technique — at author’s discretion
The work may be:
A volumetric-spatial composition with all the plastic art and rhythm of calligraphic print, including the theme “Monument to the Letter”;
Installation – spatial composition made of different elements: households, products of industry and materials, natural objects, fragments of text and visual information.
The contest is carried out in two rounds.
Cut round:
1. Participants provide the organizing committee with one contest work not later than June 1, 2010.
2. It is necessary to attach to the work:
1) Not less than 3 electronic photos of the work from different perspectives in high resolution (not less than 300 dpi, photos size not less than 29 ñm on the long side);
2) Fulfilled in electronic form of the contest participant (attached);
3) Work description: name, execution technique, materials and instruments, sizes (width x depth x height, creation date)
4) Author’s digital photo in high resolution (not less than 300 dpi, size of the photo not less than 7 ñm on the long side);
5) Author signature or monogram in electronic form in high resolution (not less than 300 dpi, size of the photo not less than 5 ñm on the long side);
6) Brief creative autobiography;
7) Short (2–5 sentences) expressions, which give the presentation to the creation credo of the author.
Authors who have not submitted any contest work and full set of the documents in the organizing committee till June 1, 2010, will not be allowed to the contest.
The list of participants and digital photos of the works, which have passed trough jury selection and which have been admitted to the final round of the contest, will be placed on the sites of the III International exhibition of calligraphy: http://www.calligraphy.mvk.ru and Contemporary museum of calligraphy: http://calligraphy-museum.com not later than June 15, 2010.
Final round:
Works which have passed in the final round, would be exhibited on one of the stands of the III International exhibition of calligraphy. The results of the contest will be declared on September 10, 2010 on the closing ceremony of the III International exhibition of calligraphy. Also, the diploma awarding ceremony of the finalists and the winner will take place there. The winner work will be published in catalogue of the III International exhibition of calligraphy, on the site of Contemporary museum of calligraphy, will be included in the permanent display of the Contemporary museum of calligraphy, and also will be exhibited on the organized by it international and Russian exhibitions.
Other condition:
1. Contest participants – creative youth – sculptors, architects, designers, artists not older than 30 years old, who have skills with volumetric forms. 2. Participation in the contest: materials, instruments, delivery of the works – on the participants’ account. 3. Organizers provide the free place for the exposure of works which have passed in the final round. 4. Nationality, religion and other preferences of the participants are not taken into consideration. 5. The received works get numbers which allow to identify the author after the cut round. 6. The works should be calligraphic and preferably to reflect the plastic and rhythm of the movement of the writing instrument. 7. The works of the contest winners from 1 to 5 places are granted to the Contemporary museum of calligraphy and will be exhibited in accordance with the working plans of the museum.
